The ortosifón, also denominated “Tea of Java”, is a herbaceous shrub of the family of the labiates, whose origin goes back to the north of Oceania and the Southeast Asia. Its bluish-white flowers stand out, whose filamentous stamens are reminiscent of a cat's whiskers. It contains, among other substances, mineral salts (mainly potassium), flavonoids (such as sinensetine), flavonic heterosides, caffeic acid and diterpenes.

Properties

Traditionally, orthosiphon has been used as a diuretic and slightly spasmolytic (it causes an increase in the reduction of water, as well as sodium chloride and urea), in urinary disorders of an inflammatory nature, to perform urinary tract lavage therapies and as an adjuvant in mild urinary bacterial infections (inhibiting the growth of different microorganisms).
