Hypothyroidism is a dysfunction that causes the thyroid gland to not produce enough thyroid hormones, so that the body cannot continue to function normally and organ activity decreases or slows.

Another consequence of the decrease in thyroid hormones ( T3 and T4 ), in the case of primary hypothyroidism, is an increased secretion of TSH, which is the thyroid-stimulating hormone and which is produced in the pituitary gland. In fact, the production of TSH is the body's way of regulating the production of thyroid hormones up or down; if the production of those hormones is excessive, TSH decreases in concentration and thyroid cells work less on producing T4 and T3. If, on the other hand, the levels of T4 and T3 decrease, TSH increases its presence, so that the performance of the thyroid gland does not decrease.
